– Giving and saving come first.  If you wait to give or save until the end, you’ll never get there.  Aim for 10% giving and start at 5% for saving, then work your way up from there.

– If married, let the spouse more inclined to numbers and analysis create the budget initially.  Then, the other person, the less inclined one, should look over the budget and make some recommendations.  Lastly, finalize it and agree to it.

– You’re both adults, and you both have a vote when it comes to the budget.  Your votes count equally!  Work out a solution you both can agree to.

– If you’re just starting out budgeting, let the average of your last three months be your guide for how much to budget your first few times.  You’ll get better at estimating going forward.
