– Cash envelopes can be one of the best tools for budgeting, but don’t overcomplicate it early on.  Use cash for your blow money, food, and maybe one other thing.  Then add envelopes as you see the need over time.

– Once you and your spouse settle on a budget, it’s no longer a “plan” or a “suggestion,” but it’s now an agreement.  It’s like a contract; no one does anything without first talking to the other partner!

– We used to use cash when paying for fuel, and you may find that a cash envelope works for you.  But now we use our debit cards for gas, then put all of those receipts into one envelope so we can keep track of how much we’ve spent.
