– In your budget, you’ve got two main types of expenses: fixed and variable.  Insurance, rent/mortgage, and some utilities are more fixed, so they take larger effort to change.  You have to move or shop insurance or sell something to change these expenses.  Variable (or discretionary) expenses like food, restaurants, entertainment, blow money, clothing, gifts and other things are going to be where you make immediate progress with your budget.

– When making the budget, always remember this principle: the greater the sacrifice, the faster you’ll win.  It will help you keep your eye on the prize.

– Your budget needs to include everything – gifts, golf, spending money, blow money, incidental expenses, savings, charity.  It will fail as a plan if it doesn’t actually mirror your life.
